I am trying to come up with a list of Technologies that are likely to become widespread 10-20 years from now and essentially replace whatever we use now. The ultimate goal is to invest a certain amount of money into corresponding companies and forget for a decade or so.

So far, I got geothermal and tidal/wave power, genetically engineered crops, therapeutic stem cells and RNA interference, smart traffic controls, biodegradation, wireless electric grids. What else?..

I think General Electric (GE) will probable own or out do most of those companies so I would go with a conglomerate. !0-20 years they’ll buy all the successful power companies, maybe tidal/wave power, wireless electric grids. They are still involved in new electric technology and aircraft engines. Lots of companies still have other names, but are owned by a conglomerate such as GE.

I want to give a brief introduction of the Technologies of how to connect internet, such as DSL, isdn and so on, in my paper. However, as a software engineer, I do not know much about the communication technologies. So I hope someone will be kind enough to give me some hints or offer me the way to solve the problem?

Thee is DSL, ADSL, Cable, Dial-up, satlelite…on and and on…..wifi is a distrobution of any of these through radio signals…..also look up tcp/ip (vincent cerf), PPPOE (point to point proto over ethernet)

There is a non-profit organization dedicated to just that purpose (no set limit). It was founded in 1983 (I think) and inspired, and contributed to, by Durk Pearson (triple major – Physics, Biology, Psychology – w/a triple minor at MIT) and Sandy Shaw (double major – Chemistry, Zoology – and a minor at UCLA), co-authors of "Life Extension, a Practical Scientific Approach" (1982). They are/were the only instance of anyone ever beating the FDA (unanimous decision), in a landmark case involving allowing claims for scientifically proven health benefits for supplements. Durk has also done a lot of work for NASA and oil shale research (US Dept. of Energy), among other things. They are the real deal, as evidenced by the extensive research done by them, and others, and thoroughly documented by credits/attributions/references to the actual research papers in their book.

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a list of Atlantic Canadian Technologies only. I’m planning a project for my students, but can only come up with national lists, and to be honest I’m trying to save time.

Many technologies have tranformed the field of psych. Obvious ones are brain imaging technology that shows brain activation and linking it to thought and behaviour. A new discipline called connectionism uses neural networks generated from Computer Software to help visualise and explain cognitive processes like language acquisition and decision making. Finally, statistical programs like SAS and SPSS are so advanced that they do all the statistical calculations alone.

They are those machines and Technologies used in muscles, like for example the exercise machines, it helps tone the muscles,,, besides that, what more machines are used to help the muscles?

You can also hook up electrodes (attached to pads) to your muscles that cause the muscle to contract. Bruce Lee used to use them.

I am trying to do some free-lancing and in conversion with few opportunities. Now I need to provide an estimation. So wanted to know what is the standard rate for developers in India. I need to submit proposals in different Technologies – ASP.Net, Share Point and PHP. Kindly advice.

Short answer: A ballpark for web development is $15/hour, especially if you’re still just trying to make a name for yourself.

Better answer: Not just in India but anywhere in the world, this is one of the areas where you have to fish around to find out what the other person is willing to offer. Contracting is tricky that way. You can’t put a static price anywhere the public can see it. If you google around, you’ll see what I’m talking about, no one has quotes listed for this kind of thing. The second you put a price out there, is the second someone else can to undercut you.

Sometimes you do have to throw a number out there before the other person will tell you how much they are willing to spend. In that situation, you should do this:

Ask yourself how much time the project is likely to take
Find out how much it is going to cost you to work on the project (even sitting at home takes time and resources, and every minute you spend working on one project is one less minute you have for another project)
Take that amount and triple it.
Divide that by the number of hours the project will take.

I say triple instead of double because the nature of freelance work is that you will be between jobs for a while and need the extra money to tide you over and stay marketable to other people while you are out of work.

Probably the most reliable way to find out how much you can get for a job, is to call around and ask other people and companies how much they would charge for similar work. Hands down that will always give you the best answer to your question.

Also, don’t trust an answer that’s more than three months old, or any number anyone gives you on a help forum like this (including mine, sorry).

I want to know if it is at this point "wise" to buy stocks and invest in technologies such as Hybrid manufacturing and other alternative energy Technologies since I believe this is the future of automation. With the intrdouction of Hybrids by car manfacturers I believe that eventually it will replace gasoline powered cars.

It depends upon the price you need to pay to invest in these technologies. To provide an example, had you purchased RCA at its peak in 1929, over its entire lifetime from that point until it was acquired by Bertlesman, it never reached more than 50% of its 1929 price. As the future would work out, television was bigger than anyone believed and RCA made more money than anyone thought possible. However, at its peak, the price was so high that there is no way RCA could ever have made enough money to meet the requirements that price produced. Just as when Yahoo! was at 230 per share. At that price, Yahoo! would have had to have been the sole source of advertising nation wide, forever, and advertising rates would have had to climb at their historical rates and Yahoo!’s margins could not have fell.

Price is everything.
